Win XP Pro or XP Pro 64bit

Depends on your other hardware really.

In terms of whether a program will run or not, I have found that 99.9% of programs that I have, run just fine on XP64...

The ones that dont run are mostly utilities that need to run on Startup, and these are thigns like Partition Magic, and PageDeFrag, and also O&O needs the 64Bit version of DeFrag 8 but other than those, pretty much everythign else runs just peachy

Hardware-wise, this is up to your hardware as I said, but most half-decent thigns these days are supported fairly well... USB Modems are buggers, as are IDE/RAID Cards or at least all mine are anyway.

To be honest, if you are unsure and ask a question like this, then the honest answer has to be "NO, YOU DONT NEED XP64" so stick with XP32
