I have done a bit of searching on the net for Windows XP with SP1 but so far have come up empty handed, so thought I would ask in here if anyone knows of a link were I can download this Iso?

Basically my wife has a very very old lappy she lost her original disc and now the key that she still has will only allow installs of XP sp1 when she tries to recover

Thanks for the update. Yes we have tried that but it doesn't recognize the key as being valid. I think last time she had to take it to a repair shop who had an original XP disc with SP1

You're probably trying the wrong type of key/disc combo

SP3 should work if you've got the right key/disc.

Is the key an OEM key? Is your disc a retail disc?

This is the issue.

Agreeing with bledd here, I've had issues of a key not activating on an earlier version of XP but never a later one, it's very likely the wrong disc.

The lappy is a Toshiba Sat Pro and the disc was included in the package she has lost the disc but wrote the key down also has it on the underside of the lappy

I thought ,like you said she should be able to bung in a Gen XP disc Sp3 and then stick the Key she has in but it wont accept the key she has (tried this method) I do have a Gen XP disc with Sn from another machine in the house can I use the ASR from that and put that key in? Or because is already reg on one machine (OEM) will this not work?

So as mentioned I have come on here to see if I can get the XP sp 1 Iso. Or an alternative way of installing XP - the Lappy is old but she loves it and wont entertain anything else.

Sorry If I seem a bit "challenged" when it comes to things like this just dont quite understand how to resolve.

If it's like my old toshiba satellite they come with a toshiba version of win xp so it's tied to only being used on toshiba hardware and thats the only version the key will work with.

Basically you'll either need a toshiba restore disc or rebuy windows.

Having reinstalled an OEM version of Windows on many Toshiba laptops, I can confirm that this is incorrect.

The key on the underside of the machine will work with any OEM Windows XP disk of the correct version (Home/Pro etc) - the service pack level is irrelevant - but it has to be an OEM and not RETAIL disk.

Or for ease of restoring in the future, just buy a new recovery disk from Toshiba for your model so you don't have to mess with drivers etc.

As above, you just need to match Home/Pro and OEM/Retail versions of the CD and it will work. SP level doesn't mean anything, so just get the one with SP3 already on it.

If your key will not activate in SP2 or higher then there is a good chance you were sold a "leaked" (aka pirated) key. Does it start with FCKGW by any chance? (other leaked keys around, but that is the most commonly used)

If it's not that then the other likely issue is that there are 3 different types of XP ISO you can get, corporate, retail and OEM. Each of these will only accept one kind of key. It's ore common to find corporate ISOs as these were made available through MSDN.

If your key is on a sticker on your laptop then it's OEM and you need to download an OEM ISO, or modify your existing ISO to accept OEM keys as decribed here.
