I'm connecting my laptop via hdmi to a a Sony KDL-55W829 TV and it does weird things with the scaling of the desktop+apps?

It's just a 1080p TV (laptop is only 720P but that shouldn't matter from previous experience)

Windows 10 file browser windows scale and look quite 'detailed'
qBittorent looks like it's running at pretend 1080p res
Chrome looks awful and like it's running at 640*480 res

I can't see a win10 option to turn scaling off, or set the resolution on the output? I set it to display second screen only so the laptop shouldn't have any effect on the tv at that point?

can't, option is greyed out in win10, and it's not a low res for all apps, windows explorer scales the fonts/menu somehow to look sharp and decent, but with small fonts?

Driver issue?

yup - sounds like a crap laptop or driver issue.

i use my pc connected to my tv and switch from a dell monitor. it doesn't scale with apps it stays at whatever res i choose it to be.

i think your apps are scaling to the crappy low res, some are better at doing that than others. i bet your running something really stupidly low.

Looms like that was it, switched to 'mirror screen' this opened up the option to change the res on both screens, set to to 1080p, then back to external only and it kept the changes :)
