Hi all,

I got bored of waiting for Win10 to auto install, so I downloaded it from Microsoft website.

Ive burnt it to disk and then tried to install a fresh copy of win10 on my pc. This didnt work as is says it cant verify key and to check installation media? I then figured I must need to upgrade to win10 first, before I can fully instal it.

So, after upgrading I tried another fresh install to no avail, saying the same thing??

I always do a fresh install of any windows software just so theres no gremlins in the PC. I also noticed that when I did an upgrade (and choosing to delete ALL previous files) I still had 'World of Tanks & Warships on my newly installed Win 10, which I didnt understand??

Theres probably something Im missing, as Im no wizard on software. Could someone help?

thanks

You have to do the upgrade option first so the key registers/activates then do a fresh install.

You're going have to install previous Os to register the key, just a warning thou if you are running an pirated Os don't upgrade as your Os will cut off in a years time.

You have to upgrade first, and then you can either use Reset PC within 10 or do a full wipe and install using the ISO.

Don't enter a key, skip that step. It won't take your previous key as it isn't a 10 key, it instead activates itself using the hardware ID that's stored when you do the initial upgrade.

Ahhhhh ok.

I validated win 8 when i first got it.

Ive upgraded to 10 now and validated the install, so Ill try doing a fresh and skipping step as mentioned.

Great thanks for the help!!

The install worked a treat, thanks!

One more quick question... does you still download motherboard drivers or does windows take care of all that now?

Windows update should take care of it, but i still installed myself so I knew I was definitely on the latest

I couldn't get windoze update to install Win 10 - just kept spinning saying getting ready . . .

Did the download and the install "keeping files and apps" (since when did all my programs become "apps"!!) and went smoothly - no yellow signs in device manager. Hate Groove - rubbish!!

Weirdly the upgrade left my NIC without a driver, but the clean install didn't.

I've also manually installed chipset drivers, probably old school but I felt dirty without them - and not in a good way.
