Hi Guys I'm pulling my hair out.
Win11 update last night failed and now i cant get it to boot.
Tried 3 recovery USB's
2 via media creation and 1 via macrium reflect
I've cleared CMOS.
I've removed all drives
Nothing seems to be working.
If I put the m.2 that has the OS in an adapter and USB it. It still gets stuck at the circle

Am i missing something. As currently it looks like i couldnt even do a clean install

I've added back the OS drive and it looked to have booted further. Went past the preparing to auto repair. To diagnosing then rebooted and got stuck.
The OS drive can be read on another machine. So its not dead.

So after about 30 reboots its moved and is now booting to the lock screen and freezing. Another 5 boots and it finally got into windows.. Suppose it could be the drive dying. (sabrent) so have ordered a trusty 980 pro. And will Clone it.

What a pain in da ass

So the rig ran for a day. New drive turned up. Cloned ok. Installed and back to square one. So its either a FUBAR'd windows install that works when it wants, Or something else...

Trying a clean install now. But it wont boot from USB. In 30 or so reboots its come up with the select your language box. But the system just hangs at that point so need to reboot and back to square one AGAIN.

Time to simplify, single ram, igpu etc.

Post hardware, if its in the sig thats not visible on mobile.

Did it work on win 10? Can you try installing that instead?
Its been running Win11 For a month or so now. It was just an update that crashed.

It worked yesterday then a reboot to install a new drive killed it again.
Everything had been removed. USB's, Internal drives. Down to 1 stick on ram (swapped 3 times in case of faulty stick) etc.

I've done a BIOS update and I'm back in again now with the original OS M.2.
Now I'm back up Ive done a new recovery drive and a clone. And now I'm going through the repair/rebuild stuff.
I want to make sure I've ready for a reboot repair before hitting the restart button, In case it doesn't boot back up.
Had a BSOD when trying to create a recovery drive. But it rebooted and worked the 2nd time.

Rog Strix X-570E gaming MB
5950 Ryzen
128Gb Vengance LPX
Sabrent 2tb M.2
GGTX1080ti and 1070ti

Stripped back to just 1080 and 1 stick of ram.

Ok so this BS has happened again. Win11 wanted to update again.
Failed to restart. And now won't boot from USB or the cloned drive. Sometimes it'll start recovery and hang but that's about it.

It's like win11 update is borking the bios.

Right. I've stripped the PC rightr back again. New formatted drive. And it still wont boot via USB.
Reflashed BIOS Again.
Either gets stuck at preparing auto repair. Or looks to be booting normally then the wheel just stops and it hangs.
Tried clearing CMOS. Then Installed a known good Clone drive (x2) and still wont boot.

So after much rebooting. I tried ton get to the CMOS battery. I had to remove one of my GPU's.... Then I thought I'd boot it just in case and voila. It ran diskcheck and booted.

Now I'm scared to turn it back off, In case the booting was a fluke.
Would a GPU issue cause all those issues after a windows update.

do you have any overclock applied? even a single overclock setting, i had curve optimizer with a neg 20 all core stable for a year then updated windows 10 and it immediately went unstable with random crashes, removed the oc and it's rock solid again for me

@mattyg any luck with this? Worried I'm coming down a similar route.

Yes and No.

Thinking my MB had fried I upgraded to a new MB Ram and a shiny 7950x
Then someone mentioned in another thread that it may have been my CMOS battery had died.
ooops.. I couldn't confirm as everything I took out was boxed back up.
But Its a very good possibility that it could have just been a simple and cheap fix.
That rig never gets shut off unless I'm away for a few days. Its also my trading rig so if any alerts go off in the middle of the night I need to get to the screens asap.

Thanks, might get one to cross that off.
install windows 10?

Tempting. W11 is reaching ME levels for me, I've never had to reinstall a version of Windows as much as this. Fortunately it's a quick affair.

Edit - trying a pre install environment to get my files off, new HD will be here in a couple of hours.
