I installed Win2k Pro SP4 on my Dell Inspirion 4150. Installation seems ok. (done this 3 times now) Plugged in USB key as i have my drivers for the laptop there. Installed chipset drivers. Went on no problems and rebooted the laptop.

Tried to install both the graphics card drivers and it didnt work. Same problem with sound card drivers.

Get a notifaction msg

Process:issetup.exe File:\nt\private\ole32\com\dcomrem\st...

1"pUnkControl incorrect refcnt"

with the options to 'OK' 'Cancel'

then after i click away that msg i get another with 'Isssetup.exe has generated errors and has been closed by windows'

Same happens in Safemode.

Has anybody any idea what is going on?

Ah good old Dell and their zipped .exe's. Try downloading the drivers for XP as they are most likely similar or the same. If you can get it to unzip to a folder you might be able to manually install the drivers. Choose the "Install from a specific location" option and point it to the files you have unzipped.

I dont understand what you are saying is the problem?

The chipset drivers install ok.

So you think its something got to do with the way the Graphic and Sound drivers drivers have been packaged by Dell?

So i should get winrar and unpack them and try and install by point the installation process to a folder with the drivers unpacked?

The xp/win2k drivers are the same download.

Thanks mate.
