Ok, I have knocked up a cheapo PC just to do some little jobs, and I am using Win2K Pro on it. Its an old K6/550 on a Gigabyte GA-5AX Mobo, with 128MB and an 8GB HD, and its SP4.

Now, when I try to run Windows updates, it fails to install the installer 3.1 thingy, and BITS 2.0

One update that it needed, was KB842773

So, naturally, I thought I would manually download and install it, but it turned out, that its for WinXP!!!

So, why then is 2K trying to download it?

I have obviously enabled automatic updates, however, after almost 4 hours, thats done absolutely nothign for all this time, when usually, it would have at the very least downloaded the installer 3.1 thing wouldnt it?

I am at a loss.

Anyone offer anything to sort this out?

It seems to me that the updates think my PC is actually XP and not 2K until it tried to install these updates and then of course its failed.

Whats this???

Windows 2000 now also needs the WGA too???

Hells bells, if they dont get deep enough into my life, they have to do this too?

Right, where is my Win98SE CDs?
