Can someone tell me how much this costs? I need it for one server looking after 4 clients (with the option of growth).

I don't understand all this CAL stuff.

Can anyone help?

Ok, thanks.

So, assuming that the users won't be directly RMD to the server, but an Admin would. Could I do the following?:-

Download the 180 day trial. Purchase a single licence for the server software and a single CAL?

Or, as the users will be mapping to the server, do they need CALs too?

It depends vastly on where you work and what sort of licencing you need. A 2003 Server licence can vary from £75ish to several thousand pounds.

You need Client Access Licences for every device that accesses the server on a regular basis or every user that access the server.

Ok, well, at present there are four employees. The server will also have MS Exchange so that PDAs can connect for email / appointment updates on the move.

Each employee also has their own machine at the office.

If employees have multiple devices then you can licence per user rather then per device.

I'm guessing thats the expenisve option :)

Thanks so far for your help

Also, will it work easily with Vista Business?

Yes supposedly, although you wont have group policy support for a lot of Vista Features.

Cals are usually about £25ish for industry per device.

What about per user?

TBH, I don't know off the top of my head, I've only actually bought device licences myself. Talk to your reseller, your most likely able to set up an Open licence agreement with MS.
