some might argue 4GB is plenty for gaming but you might as well stick in 8GB and forget about it. any more would be a waste though.

Get 8Gb of whatever is cheapest tbh, all does the same job. 8Gb is plenty for me in all games, with 1Gb being used for pagefile and some caches via RAMDISK. The 16Gb of Geil on offer today is tempting though.

gone from 8gig to 4gig today.... and noticed a difference already.... just in opening up multiple websites/video running in background etc.

8gig it felt smoother and quicker especially if your multi tasking....

Starting to think 16gig is the sweet spot for the new pc, would never need to upgrade afterwards ever again!

I run 8gb and currently:

Total 8172
Cached 6351
Available 6180
Free 246

So its not using 1/32nd of the ram in my system. I would say go for 8gb, unless you have a specific application for more. Any more than 8gb for the foreseeable future (until at least DDR4 is mainstream anyway) is just a waste really! You will have upgraded your socket before 16gb is needed. Put the extra few quid toward something else. Even if itsa new gen of SSD, or a slightly better graphics card. Both will be noticed more!
