Hi,

I'm looking for some advice about GPT partitions on Win7 64bit.

I recently purchased a new Lenovo Z570 laptop that came supplied with a 500gb drive. I bought the laptop with the intention of installing a Crucial M4 128gb SSD with a clean install of Win7.

When I try the clean install it creates three partitions, the 100mb system reserved, 99mb MSR and the main partition.

The install starts and when it tries to restart the system freezes and has to be powerd off, this happens a few times and then it boots to windows but it will not shut down or restart without freezing.

Installing any system drivers causes the system to blue screen at startup.

After reading around I found out that the Lenovo has an EFI which if Windows detects it creates a GPT instead of an MBR and the only way to create an MBR is to install the 32bit.

I have installed Win7 32bit and it installs fine and accepts all updates and drivers with no problems.

So is it an issue with Win7 64bit or SSD drives on systems with an EFI.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and might stop me from cracking up.
