Have ordered a few copies of Windows 7 Enterprise upgrade from CTXChange (£5 :D), which are Software Assurance copies.

The machines I'm upgrading are on 32 bit Vista but I want to install 64 bit Win7 so I was expecting to be able to boot and do a clean install - possibly just giving it a Vista disk to think about like in the old Windows 95 days.

I can't seem to boot from the DVD though - have tried it on a few machines, they all spend a bit of time whirring and flashing but never boot. The DVD does have "bootmgr" files etc.

So what am I missing? Am I going to have to do a clean install of Vista x64 first?

I know - but should I not be able to do a clean install from the upgrade disk? previous versions have let you do that

Odd, I tried it with the 32 bit disc (also SA enterprise) and it wouldnt boot either.

It does try to boot, spends a fair while flashing and making noises.

Might just do a clean install of Vista x64 and upgrade from there

Ended up doing an install of Vista x64 that I downloaded from the VLSC site and did the upgrade from there!

Got 3 more to do but I'll probably just image them once I've got all the apps installed
