I have been trying to install a driver for my Roland TD-15 electric drum kit but it's stuck in an install/uninstall loop.

Every time I use the installer, it wants me to uninstall as a problem has occurred. This is of course without the drum kit plugged in. After I uninstall, restart and run installer again it just says a problem has occurred.

I then checked the file repository and all the Roland driver files are sitting there. I used Windows Driver Storer Explorer (Rapr.exe) but it didn't have the Roland driver when enumerating. I then tried adding the driver but it stated the .inf file didn't feature an install.

I then tried to get permission to manually delete the folder but it won't let me and I can't change the permissions to allow me as an admin to edit the System32 folder.

I'm stumped now.

I tried deleting in safe mode but it's the same problem.

The files are in: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

You need permission to delete anything there. I tried going into the folders security settings and giving myself as an admin permission but it stated access is denied.

I did all this without inserting the USB cable for the TD-15 module, so I don't think it's a USB compatibility issue.

This is beyond annoying. I've already contacted Roland support and left a message in their forum but OCUK seems to be the only place on top of their game.

Thanks zakblood, I looked around some more with UAC and even though I had it disabled the articles you provided helped me do a more thorough check with the privileges I had set.

What I had to do was go to the ownership settings of the folder. Once I changed it to my profile it was easy to delete the folder.

Once I did this, the driver now installs properly and isn't stuck in a loop.

Thank you so much.

On a side note the error probably came from the fact that I was using a USB extender. Looks like I will have to buy a longer USB cable.
