this is happening pretty much every other day now. i put computer to sleep when i go to bed, but then when i get up it's on again. i check when i go to bed that it does indeed shut down but at some point something is brining it out of sleep.

it's prob not a virus but i'd like to know if there is any way to find out what it could be waking it up?

i'ts most annoying as i have my emails synced to this machine so if i check from phone i can't get any as they've been downloaded here

I assume that's pop3 then. Change your pop3 settings to make them stay on the server for 30 days or somewhat.

Other than that, check your BIOS for settings do with with sleep/standby. Some machines allow you to power it up just by hitting any random key on your keyboard. Could even be caused by a loose connection somewhere along the line.

Go to command prompt and type;

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

and it will tell you what last woke the pc, on mine it was the wireless mouse so I stopped it from being able to wake the computer in device manager.

first post on this forum and it was a winrar! turns out it's my keyboard which may be the R key as that's got issue when pressed it often doesn't do anything.

how can i disable keyboard from waking as it's the mouse that i use any way, plus anyone know what saitek warranties usually ae as i've had this just under 2 years

Right click on the keyboard in device manager, click properties then there's a power management tab, and untick allow this device to wake the computer.:)

That's awesome. Didn't know you could do that. One day I may need to know this. :) One of those odd things you get asked by mates as if it's something everyone knows. :D

I used to have this issue and thought that maybe it was keyboard/usb - I disabled usb waking and still the issue remained.

In the end I found that is was rogue scheduled tasks... Google update is a common culprit. I keep my PC in sleep 24/7 so all the apps are precatched and loaded for speed, the only scheduled tasks that wake up the PC are backups and defrag for the mechanical drive. PC sleeps after the tasks complete

Was going to say:

If it's on sleep, go and check your event logs. It should say what is causing it to turn on :) Used the event viewer when I didn't have an SSD to discover that Media Center updates were causing the PC to come out of sleep
