Win7 Licence Question

When I built my main PC I put Win7 Home Premium on as single OS. At a later date I purchased a licence for Win7 Professional and applied it through the control panel in "System" where you can "change the product key". Reasons were to increase RAM limit and ensure I get Win 10 pro when upgrading later this year.

My question if anyone can answer it is: can I use the no longer in use original Win7 HP licence on another build ?

If it was an OEM license then technically it should only be used for the hardware it was first activated on. In reality it will probably activate fine, and if not online, certainly via the automated phone line.

Thanks for the reply, it was retail and I just wasn't sure if it would be linked in some way to the pro version i used to upgrade it.

I'm looking at putting a cheap 2nd folding at home machine together and whilst costing it i remembered about the original win7 i had.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I've always been under the impression, providing it's only in use on one PC a retail version can be used on another PC. No questions asked. Activation via tele maybe required though, but that's no biggi
