Win7 & O2K7 slow opening network docs

Hi,

I am having problems with Win7 & O2K7 opening documents and spreadsheets that are on a shared drive. The files are stored on a Windows XP Pro based computer.

When opening local documents on the Win7 computer, Office loads the files almost instantly. However, when opening files from network drive it take one to two minutes.

I have configured/disabled sofware firewalls. I have tried changing the default printer on the Win7 computer (read that this can fix the problem).

Has anyone come across this before? Is there a fix?? Would O2K10 fix it?

Are they particularly large files? I'd be trying Process Monitor to see what's going on but it's not a tool for everyone.

Not particularly large files. From doing some googling it appears to be quite a common problem. The person is entitled to a free upgrade to Office 2010. Maybe that will cure it?

I doubt it!

My Office 2010 can take an age sometimes even with very small documents. Given up trying to find the cause as the problem is intermittent, no errors anywhere and all the info online basically says it could be anything.

Luckily it only happens once in a blue moon.

It's the sledgehammer approach but if they're entitled to a free upgrade anyway I can't see the harm in trying.
