Win7 - Playing 90's 3D games (g-police!)

Chaps,

I've just found the CD to G-police in a cuboard and would love to play it again - it was bundled with my 3DFX Voodoo2 in about 1997 and was my favourite game for ages. Tried installing it on my Windows 7 machine but I get the error 'file not compatible with the version of windows you are running' when executing the exe.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to get it working? Say it's possible

Have you tried using Dosbox?

You may find even with Dosbox it doesn't work if it's liked to the 3D card, I had Mechrwarrior 2 for the 3dFX Voodoo many moons ago and it wouldn't work with a later card.

Its most likely only a 16bit program and there for wont work with win 7, dosbox or a windows 3.11/98 vm

doesnt look like htat game had a dos version...
compatibility mode works for some games of that era like the original resident evil that gave a message that it would only run on win95, upon compatibility mode for win95 just about got it running on win 7!

might also need a glide wrapper to make it look decent,

dosbox can run 16 bit games as its an emulator, but yeah since g-police appears to be windows only, if its a 16bit programme your out of luck, though being a retro gamer i'm finding most games made after 96 ish are 32bit anyway.

Try DosBox with nGlide

I have used this combo to run the 3dfx version of Carmageddon.

Go here they specialise in getting old DOS games to work if they do not have the solution it does not exist (I also got that game free with my 3DFX Voodoo2 in 1997 & still have the same SLI Voodoo2's & G-Police & several other bundled games like Rage/Incoming!)

Thats only true for 64bit W7. 32bit W7 should be able to run 16bit apps
