I have installed Win7 on another computer which includes SP1 but am unable to get the automatic updates to work. I Have tried the so called fixes from MS to no effect. I note from the internet that a program called "Autopatcher" can download the updates and install them. Has anyone used this and can advise me.

If not can I download the updates from MS and install them myself, where do I instal them.

I have never had this problem in the past and assume it is something to do with MS pushing Win10 as it would appear it quite a common problem

Thanks:confused:

How long have you left it checking?

I have just rebuilt two vista PC's and had to leave them on over night to finish checking for updates and when its done there is 200 sitting there.

if it says checking and just sits there doing that let it run, it will complete in a number of hours later.

with windows 7 I use simplex to make my own ISO files and makes life so much easier with not many updates left to install from a clean w7 install.

:DThanks for the advice, left it in overnight and that seems to have done the trick.

Never used to like that in the past.

Thanks for your help

The last few months Windows update checking can take hours on older spec machines.

We're currently looking into a WSUS option at work to try speeding it up.

For anyone else having the same problem (ie. pretty much everyone trying to update a clean install of Win7), installing KB3083710 and KB3102810 before running Windows Update for the first time should help - more info here: http://www.zdnet.com/article/sticking-with-windows-7-the-forecast-calls-for-pain/

You can also get an update pack from MyDigitalLife - I used it a few weeks ago and it seems OK, at least nothing has exploded yet.

This worked for me so thank you very much. I spent most of today pulling my hair out as to why a clean install wasn't updating, installing those 2 updates first made it look for the rest. I was only updating my laptop as it's not good enough for W10. Might have to try 8.1 on it instead or try and convince the wife I need a new laptop :)
