heya guys. just a quick question. i have copies for both windows 7 64bit and windows 2008 server R2 through the MSDNAA. long story short which performs the best? iv heard the server version is far quicker But im not too trusting of the source and you guys are the guys in the know :)

im getting a 5870 tomorrow so will be doing a reformat and reinstall of windows and would just love to know which would be the best to go for. oh and i want the best gaming performance as that's what the computers primary function for me is.

thanks for your help!

~Jack~

EDIT: oh and if you can spare the time would you mind briefly mentioning why whichever is fastest is fastest?

For a desktop, install the desktop OS, simple.

Install the server OS if you need the functionality of it.

FWIW, I see no performance difference between the two OS's, just that Server 2008 R2 has more overheads, and is more complex to set up.

Nah go with the desktop OS. You'd spend ages turning all the features and services back on with Server 2008 for starters.
