Win7: "Window Snap" and Windows Key+arrows shortcuts

There's an option in the Ease of Access Centre that says "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen", which I've checked because it annoys me. However, I do love the Windows key+ Arrow keys shortcuts, that let you minimise or maximise windows. However, even though dragging a window to the edge of the screen with your mouse (which is something that can happen accidentally very easily) and pressing Win+direction are two completely different things, the two features are tied together in that single option in Ease of Access!!!

Is there any way to keep Windows+Arrow but disable the "window snap" that happens when dragging to the edge?

Windows only snap to edge when you move the mouse cursor right to the edge of the screen as well when dragging a window.

Just don't do that. Move your window to the edge but drag said window from the middle or other side of it, not the pane closest to the edge. Quite sinples!

Ah, but what if you're dragging it upwards? Easy to hit the edge then cause your cursor is on the top of the window already! ;) :p

Again, that's only if you;'re dragging by the very edge of the window, which you should not be!

I don't think it's part of Aero, I'm using a non-Aero theme right now (Classic Windows, I'm a luddite!:p), and even though Aero features like the Windows+Tab thing don't work window snap still does. Mostly accidentally.

I hate Windows Snap, but then i'm not dragging windows around any more so it doesn't affect me. It's easier for me to send a window to a given location and at the desired size, with a keyboard shortcut.

WinSplit Revolution:

"What is it for? WinSplit Revolution is a small utility which allows you to easily organize your open windows by tiling, resizing and positioning them to make the best use of your desktop real estate."

Ah, but what if you're dragging it upwards? Easy to hit the edge then cause your cursor is on the top of the window already! ;) :p

It only maximises when you let go of the mouse button though, so just move it slightly down again if you see it do the 'hint' that it will maximise.

Up to you though I guess. It's good the way it is IMO

Well I can make do without it on my desktop, but on my laptop the Win+direction shortcuts were amazing cause of the tiny trackpad. But conversely it was too easy to accidentally drag a window to the edge cause of the tiny screen, so those two features are really working against each other!

PS. That piece of software Dirk recommended is EXACTLY what I needed, thanks dude! :) Now I can keep the option switched off and use that for the keyboard shortcuts!
