Win7 x64 install query...

I've got Win7x86 installed at the moment, I've dowloaded a version of Win7x64 as I understand I can use the same license key that I installed W7x86 with to install W7x64

What I want to know is, do I HAVE to do a clean install, or can it be sort of 'patched' into place to become W7x64?

I assumed I would need to do a clean install but I read on another forum that it can be installed over my existing OS - but other comments disagreed...

Help? Just want a simple straight answer

not possible. it has to be a clean install when changing from x86 to x64.

anybody who says otherwise is an idiot.
