I'm new to Win8 and wanted some advice.

All my apps display like this (with the column of text to the right half chopped off):-

I'm not sure if this is (really poor and) intentional, to try and draw you into scrolling right, or whether there's a simple fix.

Thanks for any help.

Gah! Had hoped not, but suspected might be the case.

Which design school allowed someone to graduate thinking it is perfectly alright for the opening element of an app to be full of half-hidden text?

Any workarounds?

In most apps it's fine as it displays all the essential stuff on the first screen then shows you there is more to the right.
So the design school is fine, its just the food and drink app is rubbish.

most are more like this, which is absolutely fine

Obviously everyone's welcome to their own opinion and I'm not trying to convince everyone I'm right, but I don't think that's fine, to be honest. There are plenty of ways of showing the user that there is more to see, without cropping text and pictures.

I consider a design that snips text and pics always and by default to be pretty flawed.

At the least there should be some way to "fix" it.

 so all websites are badly designed then as they cut stuff of as you scroll down, as do most software.

There's no fix as it ain't broke.

Come on Glaucus, this isn't the same as websites that you have to scroll down and you know it. They could quite easily have made it similar to the BBC website - arrows to take you sideways, with faded-out previews of what's off to the sides. Would have looked better than the current setup.

It is though, one scrolls down, omen scrolls across. It is exactly the same. They aren't button stuff of you need on the first page.

It's really not the same, but I don't really fancy going off-topic explaining.

Is there a fix?

Kinda shocking. An entire screenful of potential links and info is wasted on just ten and a half links. Talk about dumbing down.

Utter nightmare for someone trying to do some actual browsing, research, etc.

There's no fix as it ain't broke.

Going by that mantra, why use heavily limited apps at all then? The sky news website isn't broken, why do I need some shoddy app that cherry picks select brainwashing articles and shoves the same one in my face at least FOUR times as I scroll right when I can simply go to skynews.com and be able to browse infinitely more information at a time than some dumbed down app?
