hello, new boy here :)

i'm trying to clone the wife's PC onto new drives. it is set up as a non RAID configuration, one drive for the OS and programmes and the other for data.

i'm using Macrium Reflect and it clones fine, worked perfectly on my own machine a few months back. on the other machine it all clones OK but it won't boot if i swap the drives over, they only seem to boot with the two original drives. won't boot with any combination of the old and new either, apart from the two original ones. very odd. It seems like there is some part of the drive structure that is mirrored or linked in some way.

hoping i don't have to reinstall everything but that mat be the only option

any ideas?

Restore the image and then boot of the Windows 8 CD. Select repair and go through that - chances are it hasn't restored the boot block - sometimes the option is hidden in imaging menus.

Had the same kind of thing this week on a fully working machine set to ahci in bios. Win7 on ssd & data on a spinner, I can clone the old ssd to a different ssd but then the machine stalls on drive detection after swapping. As bios never completes loading it's not possible to fix boot sector.
Even more curious if I then change bios to ide the newly cloned drive is immediately detected and loads fine. Changing the bios back to ahci causes the stall to come back. No definitive answer found by googling, everybody with the problem just gave in and re-installed.
