Can someone explain to me how to use the Win8 search function?

I want to find my PST (outlook) file, so I go to search, click on FILES and type *.pst in the search bar. Press enter, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing.

What I find extremely annoying is that there is no (obvious) way to select a drive and just search that specific drive for a specific file.

I've also tried searching for *.doc or *.jpg (of which I have thousands in my drives) and still comes back with no results found.

Anyone who can guide me through this, I'll appreciate it. I though the search function was great back in XP (great as in 'intuitive'). Win7 was a bit of a fumbling in the dark situation but at least it worked ok. Now with Win8 something is wrong.

can you not use the Libraries folder on the task bar?

Go to the drive you want to search and on the right hand side there is a search box for the drive.

thank you both, I've resorted to using the right hand size search box in the file explorer (noticed it only after fumbling around..I know, I know..)

Still, I think they oversimplified the SEARCH function for my liking but that's just me. I can see how it is preferable for new users.
