Just wnated to ask, what do people use for best winamp output? I have the ASIO output plugin but asio interferes with games when playing songs in the BG during a game (expected really from a beta output plugin that streams direct to the card)

Anyway, I'm using directsound out in hardware mode on my xfi and in winamp's playback section I have dithering and 24bit output enabled. I have 24bit crystalizer enabled and set to "minimum" which elevates nicely high notes on low bitrate mp files making them sound much better.

Is this the common setting used by anyone else here?

P.S. I am not using CMSS-3D or SVM modes on the xfi console, only the crystalizer.

16bit output. asio or kernal streaming. no differing, no equalisers. use tone controls on the amp if you really need to.

the idea is to output something as close to to original cd format as you possibly can. there's nothing to gain from increasing the bit depth and in almost all cases its only detrimental to the sound quality. But as with everything, its down to preference.

I don't use any EQ or tone controls in software as I output to my amplifier btw but I keep hearing that 24bit output and asio streaming is "awesome" though my normal output sounds awesome anyway so I could not hear any difference which was why I wanted to ask :p

I listen to my music in Audio Creation mode. It disables the crystalizer and all that other stuff, which all sound terrible in my opinion. I have noticed an ASIO problem in one of the modes..playing music with CS makes all the game noises sound lower pitched, like everything is going in slow-motion. very weird sounding. I run on ASIO 24bit generally.

use the in_!mpg123.dll and out_asio(exe).dll from the above page.

I use them with my X-Fi with the Crystalliser on and it sounds pretty good.

Try using the upsampler on the ASIO and change the mpg123.dll to 24bit.

I've actually found the best settings now and it's not ASIO (ASIO tends to corrupt sounds when playing winamp during gaming play etc)

I use no crystaliser, no EAX (in entertainment mode), no CMSS-3D - 50% bass and treble and max master volume, this feed goes into my amp and the quality is superb :)

Directsound out in winamp btw in hardware mode.

why use asio AND crystalliser? asio is there to bypass imperfect mixers to get that sound to the amplifere as clean and original as possible. your totally missing the point by using crystalliser as well.
