wife just told me the heating isnt working,
it comes on but no heat in radiators,
ive had a look at the boiler and the flame has gone out, is it possible the wind coil;d of blown it out ?
how do you get the flame back ?, there is an ignition switch that ive pressed a few time but nothing happens
any help would be very much appreciated

You have to light the pilot again by following the instructions specific to your boiler. They are usually printed on the boiler somewhere, often behind any covers/flaps.

And yes, strong winds can blow out a pilot light.

As Lopez says a strong wind in just the right direction can cause a back wind down the chimney and blow the pilot light out.

usually you have to hold the gas release valve/ button in for several seconds, ignite it and then leave the button in for a further 30 seconds until it stays lit.

This pretty much sums it up and as has been said the instructions on how to do this should be somewhere on the boiler.

This is something that has been happening to us quite regularly over the past two weeks or so. I think we've had to re light the pilot light about 8 times so far now. We pay for additional insurance (Home Cover I think it's called) which allows a full service every 12 months and free call outs with no charge for parts. If the problem persists they'll be getting another phone call just to ensure there's no underlying issue ;)

People have their central heating on in a mild september no wonder we are staring an energy crisis full in the face and people can't pay there bills!

Ours is on for the hot water, in addition to our solar panel, the house/radiators are controlled by a thermostats that means the house isn't heated.

Andi.

normally the wind shouldnt be able to blow out a pilot light unless their is something wrong with the pilot flame, normally when there is some sort of blockage due to dust, the flame becomes smaller then blows out..

if you cant light the pilot after waiting 30 sec, you need to start looking at thermocouple or gas valve problems, call someone out of gas safe though before you start blowing your self up
