We have the same problem at work (power station) its our 400KV switch house that gives out an electromagnetic field it stops a lot of cars from unlocking, its a fairly regular thing to have visitors towed up the road to be able to start the car.

Probably won't disable the alarm though

This would certainly be true on my car, as the whole alarm system is an after-market job, albeit fitted by the manufacturer on arrival in the UK.
