Windforce GTX 680 with 550w PSU

Hey guys,

just a quick question really, i bought the windforce GTX 680 last night (hopefully will be with me tomorrow) and i'm just wondering how its going to perform on a 550w power supply. Its an OcUK Crusade so its not the best i do admit.

The specs for the 680 say 550w minimum, do you guys reckon its worth upgrading my PSU aswell? will i see any performance increase? (im not going to be OC'ing)

Personally I would definitely buy a decent higher wattage branded PSU, like corsair, XFX etc.. Whats the rest of your spec and budget?

Deffo change your PSU to a quality known brand like XFX/Corsair/OCZ

I suspect it will run absolutely fine, the 680 has a theoretical max draw of 225W fully overclocked, of course there's lots more to it than that, AMPs per rail etc.

I would try it and see if you have problems first, you might want to mention the rest of your spec.

Like strax said, so long you're PSU can handle the amps, it should be alright.

providing not oc'ing cpu or gpu I reckon you might just be ok

The power rating is fine, overclocked 670 SLI with my setup only pulled a max of 410W. It's the amps that you should compare to higher end PSU to see where you stand.

Not sure about the quality of your PSU.

My 450W is doing well. See my Sig.

In games (skyrim) the whole box only draws 200W from the wall socket.

Mine is an EVGA stock OC'ed version. It boosts to 1189 out of the box.
