This evening, I realised that I had not scanned for a virus for such a long time, so I decided to do so - and found that I had four. Whoops. Put them into the 'virus vault' (I use the free AVG one) but then I 'wiped' them (not sure whether it's the same as 'delete'). At the same time, I decided to install the Zonealarm firewall (the free one).

What else should I do? Oh yeah, Ad-Aware...I haven't used that in ages. I opened it, and then saw that the last time I updated it was 408 days ago or something like that. Oh dear - that won't do. So I was about to click the 'Ok' button in order to allow it to check for updates...but before I did that, it totally closed down...i.e. the Ad-Aware window completely disappeared as if someone invisible had closed the window.

Confused, I tried it again and again - same thing happened every time, just quicker and quicker.

I then tried to download a new version via MajorGeeks, but Firefox closed down in the same way before I could do it. The same happened when I went to the Ad-Aware site.

I then tried to download Spybot - but the same thing happened.

I then tried to do it all via Internet Explorer...I downloaded it from MajorGeeks, and went so far as to have the 'Wise Installation Wizard' box appear - but then it would close again.

It's happened before, for a brief period...Firefox would sometimes suddenly close of its own accord when I was browsing through certain section/s of the offtopic forums (i.e. at offtopic . com, not as in offtopic on OcUK). At the time, I thought it was just a bad line of code or something in Firefox, and it eventually stopped and hadn't happened since.

I have no idea what's going on - and frankly, it's quite scary...it's as if someone is taking control of my computer and preventing me from doing certain things!

EDIT: Oh, looks like I posted the above JUST in time...I'm doing this edit in Internet Explorer now...Firefox totally closed it's 2 or 3 windows I had open only seconds after I posted the above! Looks like whatever it is is quite angry that I tried to access Ad-Aware/Spybot AND explain the problem with it on this forum!
