window switch broken or just loose ?

Hi quick question I have a vw 2008 polo car which has electronic windows(left and right only) but the switch when pressing downwards feels like it is not making contact with anything, driver window does not go down or up, other-side is fine though.

Is the window switch lifter broken and needs replacing ?

I was looking to open the plastic part surrounding the switch since it looks sealed but id reckon id scrape and dent the surface so just wondering if I need to order a new part off its 12 quid off flebay so cheap.

Can you not swap them around to eliminate the winder motor?

You should be able to remove the cover or at worse case the door card without damage. Have a look if you can find a guide for removal either on youtube or polo forum.

thanks for replies, its a dual switch one so its in one solid plastic unit.

I checked on youtube but no up to date guides on newer cards mainly american and much older vws sadly, one guy pretty much yanked a flat head into the plastic handle and took it off prying it open, perhaps just have to give it a go!

You got a picture? I'm sure the switches come out with carful levering with a screwdriver

I did pry a flat head under that plastic bit but it feels like I would damage it or break it, so I got nervous and stopped :eek:

there are these 3 screws at the bottom I think I need a larger torq screw driver to unscrew it and perhaps the cover will come off no doubt it may have wires attached, have not gone this far yet. http://oi58.tinypic.com/52h0cx.jpg

I suspect the switch it broken since its loose and just falls downwards angle, like its not hitting the switch/plastic under it.

Vw forums are full of 600 guest and 1 member so doubt ill get an answer from them but will try.
