After some advice regarding a tint issue I have got on my vehicle, about 6 weeks ago I had a company tint my car. They did a terrible job and in the end I had them detint the car and give me a refund, Shortly there after I got another reputable company in bristol to retint the windows. The company that retinted the windows were aware that the car had been tinted before and I had problems with the previous company and assured me that they would do a top job.

After having the windows tinted I was told I would have to go back for them to try and get the tint to sit abit flatter against the lines, because on my car they are raised a lot ( common lexus thing ) I got this done and the owner mentioned there were a couple of bits around the edges of the dot matrix they couldn't get out. Now initially I wasn't too bothered about this but having looked a few days later I noticed there is a scratch in the film and some dirt etc. I phoned the tinter and he said that it was on a scale system or some crap the job that was done due to the car having been tinted before this would have possibly caused contamination issues etc, he's initially proposed over the phone to redo the tint but stated that if they remove the tint and the lines are damaged he's not going to be held accountable.
He also said something about the car not being a new car can cause problems or some crap, but the funny thing was he was happy to take on the job and was quite firm on stating they wouldn't have any problems before they did the tint.
What are people's views on this?

The previous tinters even tho they were crap, they managed to get the tint out ok with no issues to the heating lines.

Do I get him to retint the car and be forced to accept his crap about not being accountable for issues to the heating lines.

Or do I get a new rear screen put in with them tinting it before installation by national windscreens. I don't want to do this as it's going to cost me £££ to go down this route.

Or Do I live with it, and let it probably bug me.

Any advice welcome.

More like they couldn't be bothered to clean the glass properly before putting the tint on. Doesn't matter how may times the glass has been tinted, if it is cleaned properly there would be no contamination. The scratch and dirt is the fitters fault for being careless and not doing the job in a sterile environment.

The dot matrix around windows can cause problems and can take allot of effort to get out as it traps air in-between the dots but it is possible with care to get rid of them all.

The heater lines should cause no problems to a good tinter as many dealers use them to put the rear tints on. When the wife wanted her rear windows doing I asked the local BMW garage who they used for their non OEM privacy glass tints.

I certainly wouldn't buy a new screen for it to be done wrong again and then tell you because it has been tinted before by them they cant guarantee blah blah..........

Well along the dot matrix lines it's not so much you get the normal issue were it won't stick on the dots, the issue is there's like what looks like cat whisker bubble lines commin out from were the edge of the film is on the dot matrix. The Whisker phrase is what the tinter mentioned when it was applied and that these would be pushed out when I went back the second time. They haven't all been removed

I know what you mean about the screen probably wasn't cleaned thoroughly and it appears hes probably trying to blame the previous tint removal. But it's evident that when the job is passed to them that they are then responsible for the job, and not blaming the previous tinters.

He was confident there wouldn't be any problems with them installing the film, this was partly why I went with these the second time around.

If I was to go down the new screen route then they would be fitting the film not anyone else, but they could then try and wriggle out of any future problems by passing the buck to the window installer.

Im not sure how to go about it in relation to if they detint the glass, retint and then there's problems with the rear defroster then what.

Do you see what I mean?

I had dealings with this tinter 6 years ago on a peuegot 206, they tinted all the windows on my car and the car was less than 6 months old at the time. The front window tints developed a fault were the tint was catching in the same spot on each side, The tinter redid the tint but it happened again - he then tried blaming the car and said I should live with two cuts in the film, in the end I got him to detint the film but he wouldn't provide a refund.

I didn't want to go back to these but they are rated as one of the best in bristol, I've paid with a credit card but doubt this would assist me if I needed any.
