Hi guys, i finally upgraded to windows 10 a while ago now but ive only just noticed today that the 5.1 surround sound has stopped working. When i go into the option to configure 5.1 surround sound there are no rear speakers to select only side ones and nothing comes out the side ones when i press a test sound.
However if i choose 7.1 the rear speakers then appear and i can play sound through them
Ive tried setting up using the 7.1 so i get the rear speakers but then de-selecting the side ones however then the surround sound isnt working like it supposed to...
Anyone have an ideas how to fix this?

Sound card onboard motherboard asus crosshair formula v z.
Firstly Windows installed drivers then I got the updated Windows 10 drivers from the website and still the same

The software is showing that the 5.1 can have rear speakers but it is completely greyed out so I can't select it. From what I can do now is either.. Choose 5.1 surround and plug my rear cables into the side cable jack and use my rear speakers like that or.. Choose 7.1 and disable side speakers to use the rear ones.

It's annoying that the rear speakers are not selectable for the 5.1 config in Windows 10s sound settings even though it was in win7.

My guess is it's a problem with Windows that Microsoft need to address in an update

Yep, it's a fault with Win 10. Apparently fixed in the 10565 update for windows insiders with a fix for everyone else potentially coming with "Threshold 2" update next month.

+1

I also read similar on some forums following similar issues. Quite pathetic of MS tbh. But at least it is getting a fix in the near term..
