Windows 10 Activation

Hi,

My old motherboard was faulty so have replaced it and now I'm not able to activate windows 10.

My key is a windows 8 pro which was upgraded key to w10 so do I need to install windows 8 and run the upgrade?

I'm also using a local account so no device is detected when going through the troubleshooting option.

i have done this a few times, change hardware, install windows 10, go to activate windows,
use win 8 code.

its worked everytime for me.

Have tried the win 8 keys mate but get the following

"We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital licence or product key. If you think you do have a vaild licence or key, select Troubleshoot below. (0x803f7001)

This is not a fresh install mate, I restored from a backup.

just finished on live chat (didn't know MS had one) and my only option is a clean windows install with my win 8 key.

As I've only used a local account there is no digital key to recover.

Yes, each time I change hardware, I make sure to use the microsoft account login. Then revert to a local login after for general usage.
