Hi All, installed the AU and i'm not liking the forced "All Programs" view of the start menu.
Has anyone found a way to revert the Start Menu to what it was previously? Or at least customise it so it doesn't show All Programs by default?

Didn't find anything other than resorting to classic shell, etc. which kind of defeats one of the biggest reasons I'd use Windows 10 at all (I actually like what is potentially possible with the tiles). Hate it - there was a load of feedback asking it for it to be toggleable the moment it appeared in preview/insider builds and yet MS would rather spend the dev time on silly features no one will use rather than improving the basic quality of life/experience features.

Fortunately the one Windows 10 device I'm still using now is stuck on 1511 for awhile due to a problem with USB3 drivers.

Was in the same position. That and the whole moving the clock to the left made me revert the update. Spent a lot of time looking for a way to change it but MS seem to like forcing these things on us rather than having an option enable/disable.

Probably not the most intelligent/secure thing to do but it was either that or bite the bullet and install Linux.

I really really don't get why they don't skunkworks (beyond the insider/preview builds for the main branch) some of these changes alongside the main branch with a small group of public testers and roll stuff into the main branch that is well received and/or implemented based on the feedback returned - quite a lot of changes, etc. they are making are completely at odds with conventional wisdom (and for good reasons) based on the last 20 odd years of software development - I get trying to do things that are different or defy conventional wisdom just to see what does and doesn't work and maybe have a better idea of why but pushing them on the main branch is just retarded.

I have the update on one machine ( my main ) and while I don't hate it I think it is a really unpalatable strategy to meddle with intrinsic things such as the start menu through forced updates with no way to bring back previous forms and function of it.

There was absolutely no benefit for me, all that has happened is I have a huge start menu with tiny little icons on it which for me makes it a bit tiresome to use compared to the previous version.

Why is there no option to keep the original version ala Xp?

I dread a forced metro update now :(

I really liked the W10 start menu though. Just want it as it was before the recent update :(

Same, since Windows XP you click on it and then go to all programs/apps, now its forced on you with no option to revert back, which is why for now I've reverted to the previous build. Cortana is now forced on you and isnt easy to disable (Gpedit or regedit).

That is the thing for me - once I'd got time to pull it apart and rebuild/customise it to my liking - especially once they'd added the extra tile wide option I found it a significant step forward in usability, etc. from 7 but then they go and spoil it with the all apps list which for me does nothing but add visual clutter which I'd gone to lengths to remove - so stuff like classic shell or start is back aren't particularly useful over just sticking with something like 7.

Try using Start full-screen. (Settings / Personalisation)

The layout changes to what I think you are after. You get the choice between 'pinned tiles' only or 'all apps' only.

Fullscreen doesn't work for me personally - I like the start menu to be as unobtrusive as possible - hence disliking the forced all apps entry that just adds extra elements and size to it that isn't relevant to my use.

I've just installed Classic Shell Start Menu, not used it for a long time but MS seem determined to annoy me!
