Bit odd this. It's a relatively fresh install. Maybe a month old.

This doesn't happen with all programs, but most of them. So iTunes, Steam games etc, I change the audio device as normal, by clicking on the icon in the system tray. That changes the audio device fine, but open programs that are using the audio device stick with the one selected when the program was open. This forces me to close the program and reopen it to use the most recently selected audio device.

Audio settings are set to default and no apps or programs are set to use specific audio devices.

Anyone had similar or know how to fix it?

It happens occasionally for me when I switch between onboard (Realtek) sound and TV (Nvidia HDMI), but usually just switching back to the onboard and then again to the TV sorts it.

I use AudioSwitch to do this quicker. There are a couple of different software with the same name, but this one has worked fine for me for years.

I'll have a go with that. Reason for the fresh install was a new GFX card that is an Nvidia and also connects to my main monitor via HDMI. Previously, I had an AMD card and was connecting via DVI and displayport... So we have something in common there that might warrant a bit of further investigation.

Maybe I just need to remove the HDMI as a playback source. Until I used HDMI I actually had no idea the monitor had built in speakers...
