Windows 10 black screen after logon

I've seen this issue quite a lot, but I've never had it where trying to run anything through task manager just kills task manager.

Anyone else seen this issue and have been able to fix it?

Logon into windows, black screen with cursor and that's all.

You can get to safe mode, but same issue, black screen etc.

Sfc doesn't find anything.

I can access the recovery environment easy enough, start up repair can't find anything to fix (never had that work anyway haha)

I have a feeling it's just an update that's borked it, but because I can't run anything in normal or safe mode, I'm starting to think it's best to just reprep.

I did think about restore point or going back a previous build, but when I tried couldn't get password to work, even though I can login with it, which I found odd.
