Guys,

Browsing to a network share from PC to Samba (UBUNTU) from the same PC - it works fine from the WLAN but not from the wired connection. Network category looks ok, rebooted switch (although the AP is in the same switch), rebooted ubuntu, rebooted PC, IP settings look good.

The shares are mapped network drives, which I can click on then click on a folder and it hangs. I can literally changed to WLAN (disable ethernet / enable WLAN) and it works.

Really scratching my head on this one...

Sounds like the WLAN is set to home/private network with file sharing turned on and the wired isnt.

That was my thoughts but they look exactly the same - home/private - both have the file and printer sharing ticked, is there another part I should check for that?

uninstalled the devices in device manager, reinstalled all working. Gotta love M$ Windoze.
