Hi,

I picked up a new ultra-book (Asus UX305CA) recently. I am unable to locate the CD key which was used to install windows on the device. I am looking at the OEM disk i had used to install my desktop machine and the key is certainly not the Product ID shown on system information.

Does any one know where i can get the code for it?

The reason I need it is to possibly do a clean install as there is too much bloatware on it and i plan to dual boot the system with linux , so incase it all goes **** up , i can recover it via a fresh install.

Sort of tangential question , if the dual boot goes bad , is it possible to recover by dropping all partitions and doing a fresh install? Basically i do not wish to end up with a brick if the experiment fails at some level. What would be the best recovery method you guys would advice.

Cheers!

Windows 10 doesn't use product keys, rather it identifies the system via the motherboard that it's activated. As soon as the new install connects to the internet, Windows will activate itself.

So essentially since it is already activated once successfully now... any future install on the same will not need a key ? Even if say the EFI partition went fubar ?
