Just on setting my new rig up, with Windows 10.

Ive gone into the Security Section, Virus and Threat Protection, to find Defender, but found it switched off, so i went to the Settings, and it said about me using another program (Avira), but i can still use Defender, to Periodically Scan as well, so i turned that on, and it then came up so i can do quick scans.

Is that ok ?, as i used them both fine together on Windows 7, but with 10, it seems different, it also has options to send samples to MS, and some Cloud Delivered Protection, as well as Tamper Protection, which are also on.

You don't want real-time protection turned on if you're running a third party AV at the same time. It will increase load times and lower snappiness on the desktop. (each file clicked is passed through to windows defender the first time it's launched per boot)

Either use Avira or use Windows Defender, not both. Personally I'd just use the Windows one these days.

Thanks chaps, i shall turn Defender off then :)

EDIT:

Do i just turn off the Periodic Scanning, to turn it back off ?, as its different to Win 7.

Just disable all of it if you have AV software already installed.

You mean the Cloud Protection, and the Tamper Protection as well ?, as i can only get into those, when i turn on the Periodic Scanning, and what about all the App and Browser Controls ?, Check Apps and Files, SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge, and SmartScreen for Microsoft Store Apps, all those are currently set to Warn.

Malwarebytes (in paid for active mode) and Ms defend catch most things.
I wouldnt be without MWB though, no way it catches far to much stuff.

Yeah Malwarebytes is good as well :)

Ive gone back into the settings, this time via the little cog, bottom left, and into the Manage Providers, and its got in there, that Defender is turned off.
