Windows 10 driver issues, hardware incompatibility

Hi guys,

I've got a Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard. Recently I've had the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The upgrade seems to have worked but I've had problems running certain things and also there seems to be problems with lack of drivers for devices like for example I have a Edirol M-16 DX 16 channel mixer I use but yet there's no driver for it and the Windows 8 one doesn't work either I've tried but the USB won't detect the device when installing for some reason.

The main question really is since I've upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on my Rampage IV Extreme I've just noticed tonight that there's some new drivers for this motherboard now on the Asus website for Windows 10 64-bit. There's not many drivers, some of the important ones like for the Asmedia devices, USB 3.0, Bluetooth, RAID drivers etc.. (by the way I'm running RAID 10 also), these drivers aren't on the Asus website and I'm not sure yet if they're going to become available.

I'm thinking about maybe taking all my games off my machine, most of them are in Steam anyway or I have a few in Origin. I've also had to take Flight Simulator X off because I play that also with add ons and things installed but FSX was messed up when I first tried it under the new Windows 10. The menus were making the game crash and the screen was going blank. I'm trying to get on top of things with this Windows 10 was thinking really about doing a clean install and starting again with the machine.

I've got a Solid state drive so there's things I have to turn off when I install Windows 10 just like I had to with Windows 7. According to my mate he says that with my Samsung SSD you get some software called Magician software or something which does all this for you like turning off important features in Windows so you don't cause long term damage to your SSD. Especially things like the Windows defrag tool and also Virtual memory and file indexing etc.. as these will read and write to the SSD too much and could cause long term damage to it. I can't use Magician software according to my mate because I use my motherboard in RAID mode so I have to do it all manually instead.

I think doing a clean install might be a good idea to start from the beginning and then put all my games and programs back on one by one. Just not sure really about this point that the Asus Windows 10 Rampage IV Extreme drivers aren't all there on their site, should I then go with Windows 8 driver instead if it's not there?

I've never done a clean install before in Windows 10 so it would be interesting to see what it's like. It's annoying though that there's so many devices that don't have Windows 10 drivers for them yet, I have a few music hardware devices as I play guitar and keyboard. I've even noticed my Asus Xonar D2X soundcard there's no Windows 10 driver yet. I'm not sure how it works really when you install Windows 10 from the update provided by Microsoft, how are you supposed to get the proper drivers on your machine, I have had a few problems like before when I was under Windows 7 I bought Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PC and I couldn't get it working under 7 until the Win10 came out, then it worked it wouldn't launch under 7 it was a bit silly. The other night I was playing GTA5 and then suddenly this message popped up in Windows saying I was out of memory which has never happened before.

I've gone and bought some slightly faster memory now for my Rampage IV Extreme, got some 2400Mhz and I've upgraded from 16GB to 32GB instead, thought I'd do an upgrade on it while the memory is still available to buy.

I'm not sure really if the problem is with Windows 10, I never had a problem before with the out of memory message in Windows 7.

So really my main question is about the drivers if I'm on Windows 10 should I get a Windows 8 driver if there's no Windows 10 driver?

And also what if the Windows 8 driver doesn't work then what do I do? I wish I could get my mixer working the Edirol one, I paid quite a bit of money for that a few years ago, looks like Roland don't seem to be making anything else since they brought that out and it's a pretty cool thing also, came out a few years back. Also this mixer I've got it's discontinued now so I'm thinking they won't support it anymore the last driver they released was for Windows 8, if they don't sell it anymore now then I'm thinking there's never going to be a Win10 driver it's such a shame I tried the other day to get it working under Win10 but just couldn't manage it neither did the Windows 7 driver seem to work either.

I don't think Windows 10 seems too bad, I'm fairly positive about it now after having it for just over a week but still though there's loads of devices and yet no official Windows 10 driver yet which is annoying it's like a waiting game for them to produce them all.

I've got lots of things working though under Windows 10, I'm scared to try my printer out it's quite old, not sure if a Windows 8 driver will work at this point I'm not even sure if there is a Windows 8 driver for my printer... it's probably only got a Win7 driver at the latest and it's a shame I've just shelled out the other week for some ink cartridges for this printer don't want to have to dump it and buy another one...

Surprised actually, have been testing some things out since my last post here, the Mixer my Edirol definitely doesn't work under Windows 10, I tried again with both Windows 8 and 7 drivers but they're not compatible. There's nothing I can do really, was thinking about phoning up Roland sometime and asking them if they're going to make a Windows 10 driver and see what they say? It's such a shame really.

I'm glad I got GTA5 working under Win10, it was doing my head in for weeks and weeks it wouldn't run under Windows 7. Also a bit of a bummer my Flight Simulator was messed up after I upgraded to 10.

There is good news though, I just tested my old printer out and it worked, surprised to see there was actually a Windows 10 driver for it anyway, the scanner that's built in, I used a Vista driver like I did when I was on Win7 and it still worked on 10 just fine so that's good. I've got a guitar pedal thing, one of those Native Instruments things and I've tried that successfully tonight also, seems that is still working after the upgrade from 7 to 10.

I've just been burning myself a copy of Windows 10 Pro. I downloaded it from Microsoft earlier on about an hour ago and I've just burned it, also I've just made a note of my new Product Key for Windows 10 Pro. I was going to say at first I thought they would have kept the same key as before for Win7 but I was wrong they've actually given me a new key.

I see that this could happen to lots and lots of people all over that when their Windows 10 goes down and they have to reinstall they won't have the new key for it unless they've written it down. I just used a tool on Hiren's CD to get the correct key. I've got a couple of other machines on Windows 10 now also and I'm going to have to print out the keys for those machines also incase they go down and I have to do a clean install.

At least I've got a copy of Windows 10 on disc now anyway so that's good. I don't really want to have to wipe my machine and reinstall everything there's quite a lot on there at the moment and it seems to be working. I might try reinstalling FSX first and see if the menus are still messed up on a fresh install of that game. It's that that annoys me really the fact it didn't work because I have spent lots of money on add ons for it (anybody who knows about Flight Sims they are expensive) and yes I was having trouble and it's a Microsoft product also not working right under a Microsoft operating system.
