Hi Guys,

I have put a new SSD in my PC to add more space for games and improve the loading times. Ever since I have installed it, I have had huge problems.

It appears that in the process of adding it my OS SSD has gone a bit bonkers and certain files just dont seem right. I have had issues with antivirus programs on the same drive not loading properly, requiring a reinstall to my PC completely forgetting I have a GPU, to which I had to update software via Nvidia experience.

Im trying to update my windows to make sure its recent and I keep getting "Error 0x80004002" which I think is what the issue is. I cant seem to find a fix on the net without having to pay for a program and unfortunately due to lots of moving I no longer have the disc (unless its hidden somewhere ive not thought of!). This means I cant uninstall and start again.

Any ideas?

Additionally my new SSD is not working correctly either. I have managed to download small games from steam and launch them fine but as soon as I try and install GTA5 it fails stating something about access not granted (im administrator), and if I try to launch total war:warhammer 2 it launches the launcher fine but then pressing play just closes the launcher (as normal) and then does nothing. No processes in the background or anything.

Anyway, I hope someone can help, this has got me really stressed out!

Cheers!

It sounds as though your new SSD is causing the problems. What make and model is it and is the latest firmware installed on it? Does your motherboard have the latest BIOS?

I'd gamble that as soon as you remove the new SSD, your system will likely behave again.

Thanks for the response, the drive is a Samsung 860 evo 500gb. I have a SATA type board in my case (corsair 800D) which all my other drives are plugged in to, so I added the new SSD to the free slot and it's just gone crazy ever since.

I activated it and I can see it in Windows explorer, I can install software on it and as said certain steam installs to it have worked perfectly. Just for some reason the two games I wanted to use it for don't want to work and as said earlier my OS drive seems to be acting up. It seems like it's somehow gotten corrupted or just simply restored to a previous version as things that were working before are not anymore.

I've updated my bios and apparently all the firmware is correct for my disks. I still have issues with or without the drive plugged in. Cortana for example won't respond to typing.

I have also had windows come up with a message on booting up saying something has gone wrong and it's quoting memory storage as key words.

I have tried to reset my Windows using it's own methods and that fails too.

I think somehow when I plugged the ssd into the pc, my other drive somehow corrupted. Just the way the pc feels makes me think there's an issue with the install of windows.

Unfortunately I don't have the disc anymore but I'll write down my license and use a buddies windows 10 usb to try and fix the issue tomorrow.

Short of that I really don't know what else it could be or what to do.

The only other thing I can think of that's different is I put the drives in different bays but surely that shouldn't cause an issue?

I would backup your data then erase your drives. For your SSD drives, use secure erase first. Then use diskpart from command prompt to clear all your drives, except the Windows installation.

Once Windows 10 setup has loaded and you're at the first screen of setup, press Shift + F10 on your keyboard to bring up command prompt.
  1. Type in diskpart to load Diskpart.
  2. List and identify the drives you want to erase by typing list disk and noting the drive numbers. Select one drive at a time by typing in select disk 0 - replacing 0 with whatever disk # the drive is. I'd imagine you will start with 0 and 1 for both your SSD drives, incrementing for each harddrive.
  3. Type in clean to completely erase the drive.
  4. Move to step 2 for the next drive until you have cleaned all the drives.
  5. Type in exit twice to leave diskaprt, then close the command prompt window.
I honestly believe that clean drives are the way forward for you now.

After a completely fresh install of Windows it's all working fine again.

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated!
