Windows 10 Fresh Install Problem (media driver)

I've had a new build from OC, and am trying to install Windows 10 from an OEM DVD.

After I select the language options, I get the following:

"Load driver
A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now."

I've tried the graphics card and motherboard DVDs that were supplied with the system, but the required driver isn't found. All I have plugged in are a PS/2 keyboard, USB Wacom tablet (in one of the black ports - I've tried without it plugged in too) and a VGA monitor.

Initially, the SSD was set to boot first, but the Windows installation loaded anyway. I've now set to boot from the DVD, and still get the same error.

Specs:
Asus Prime B350-Plus AMD
AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 1600
Samsung PM961 Polaris NVMe SSD
GeForce GT 710 SILENT 1024MB PCI-E

Maybe the DVD can't be read correctly. Try downloading Windows 10 from the MS website using the media creation tool on to a USB stick.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible: "To use the media creation tool, visit the Microsoft Software Download Windows 10 page from a Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 device"

My (old) PC is Windows XP, and my laptop Ubuntu.

I'm guessing that this is a SATA DVD drive you're talking about?

First I'd suggest checking the BIOS SATA settings as it might not be in a mode that is liked and windows 10 is throwing all its toys out of the pram (this is just a guess).

The second thing I'd suggest trying is to download the AMD RAID driver for that board directly from the Asus website to see if that helps (again, this is just a guess).

It's worth a try, thanks.

It is a SATA DVD drive. It doesn't quite eject all the way and is a bit rickety when it opens and closes, which doesn't give me confidence it's actually working properly. It takes ages for anything to happen before Windows 10 installation even begins - and the DVD drive is quite noisy during this. Is this normal? It's my first installation of Windows 10 so I've no idea how long this part should take. Is it because a partition is being created?

The installation process doesn't seem to start at all if the first boot device is the DVD, whereas at least it starts if first boot is the SSD. Though I'm not completely sure, as if I change the boot order, I'm told I haven't made any changes when I Save & Exit.

If I change the SATA Mode from AHCI to RAID, the DVD drive isn't detected, which I guess is what you expected? I've downloaded the RAID driver, popped it on a USB stick, and the driver isn't detected when the "Load driver..." message appears (I'm now set to AHCI, so the DVD is detected in the first place). Is there another way of installing it? Also at the "A media driver your computer needs..." bit, the SSD is showing as Boot (X:)

Before the above, when I changed SATA Mode back to AHCI, I got the following error:

Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Status: 0x0000185
Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

But at the 2nd attempt I got to "A media driver your computer needs..." again.

If I go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC for another fresh install I get the Windows 10 message "A required drive partition is missing." I don't know if that means anything considering the installation had barely started anyway.

After the most recent failed installation (no further than the media driver required again), the DVD, plus 4 drives are showing in the boot priority list (there is only one SSD, plus the USB). The USB is showing as "Partition 1" - if that is actually the USB. So I don't get where the extra 2 are coming from.

you could find a windows 10 iso on the web (earlier oc threads), validate the sha1 and burn that to a usb key for the install,
or ring microsoft and ask them to email you a link (to your MS account) for the ISO, if you give them them the oem key ?

since the drive or the dvd (ask OC for a replacement ?) maybe bad may not be productive to continue with that,
can checkout the drive on your old xp pc ?

Thanks. I've spoken to Microsoft and they've sent me an ISO link (I didn't realise that was possible). The problem now is I don't have a USB stick over 2GB, or any writable DVDs!

Maybe the DVD can't be read correctly. Try downloading Windows 10 from the MS website using the media creation tool on to a USB stick.

The download direct from MS installed with no problem on a bootable DVD I created, so perhaps the issues were a faulty Windows 10 DVD. Which sort of defeats the object of me requesting the OS on a DVD.

And Microsoft's help - they just assume you're an idiot. Amongst other things, I told them a million times a link they'd provided me was broken. Their suggestions started at try again, try another browser. I even told them to click the link themselves, but in the end I granted access to my PC to watch them click the link and find out it was broken...

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I can believe I wasted a whole day and it was something so simple.
