For some reason yesterday applications have started hanging constantly and I'm struggling to find the cause. Switching between tabs or opening new tabs will cause chrome / ff to freeze. Games seem to hang for about 10s every couple of minutes. Windows search keeps freezing, chrome is even freezing while I'm just trying to type this post. Basically it seems to be impacting everything.

Is this likely a windows issue or a hardware issue? Nothing new has been installed (software or hardware).

Could be hardware issue, do a memory test on your ram,memtest86+ is good for that.

Check Event Viewer(right click on start button menu in bottom left corner) and Reliability History(which is in Control Panel under Security/Maintenance) which should give you list of any issues.

Similar problem here, windows 10 will randomly freeze for a little bit and HDD access will reach 100% but fix itself after 10 - 20 seconds.

Ran memtest which threw no errors, checked a few tools for HD health but seemed fine... Next step will be to do a windows reset and see if that helps, if not then guess will have to start replacing components one by one to find the culprit.

Fixed the 100% Disk usage issue by editing an entry in the registry.

Now I get complete lock ups a couple of times each day (doesn't seem to matter what is running at the time of the freeze).

Tried:
- New RAM (needed it anyway)
- Ran memtest86+ for a few passes
- Reset Windows
- Ran the Intel BurnTest
- Different Drivers
- New PSU
