Sorry..... I know this has probably been asked a million times on this forum.

I'm after a Windows 10 home key, what's the best place to get one?

I recently built a new pc but the old code (was old) and think it locked to the old motherboard it won't let me use it.

You needed to link the Windows install on the old motherboard to a Microsoft Account for it to be reusable after changing the motherboard.

If you still have the motherboard but you haven't linked the Windows install to a Microsoft Account, you can reinstall Windows on that motherboard, it'll reactivate after you provide internet access, and then you can link it to a Microsoft Account.

Once completed it'll say it is activated with a digital licence linked to your Microsoft Account in the activation page in settings.

Now you can reuse it by logging into the Microsoft Account as directed by the activation wizard on the new PC.

Also, once you have completed the license transfer to the new PC, you can either keep a note of the Microsoft Account login details for future use, or you can switch it back to a local account (it'll become unlinked but still activated) and then use the delete account feature on the web to cancel the Microsoft Account.

I have heard of people who bought windows keys and not had any issues and some who say they are likely volume licence keys and may be revoked. For £10 I would try it, especially if the seller has good reviews
