Windows 10 Issue

Hi all,

Desperately looking for advice here. I built my desktop about 18 months ago and installed Win7 on it. Been using that until last week when I decided it was time to do a fresh install. After 3 nights of attempts to fresh clean install Win7 and trying every possible solution I could find online for the problem, I was unable to do so. It kept giving me the "CD-DVD Driver is missing" Error right after the start and nothing i tried worked.

So I did a fresh USB Win10 install that went through without any problems. I`m roughly 3rd day into using it and I find it very "sluggish" - not sure if that`s the proper word.
To add to that I have been using Chrome for ages, but for some reason Chrome feels very laggy / choppy or even slow while loading pages / swapping tabs / or even scrolling down the page. I tried other browsers like Opera - where it is better however I can still notice these weird lags / stutter or what ever you want to call it. This also happens when watching youtube videos - stutter, lag, slow loading, sound stutter sometimes...

All software is up to date and I don`t think my PC can`t handle it as it`s not that old -

Asus z170 Maximus 8 MB Hero
Skylake i7 6700 at 4ghz - no overclock atm
Radeon Fury X
Corsair Vengeance 16gb
Corsair RM 850 Gold PS

Tried running Games like Doom, Metro LL - mostly all on Ultra with ez 60fps no lags / no stutter.

I am just about to pull out my hair as the experience is so bad.
Can anyone advice what the issues could be here? Am I missing something..?

CD-DVD Driver is missing - damaged/disc rotted disc? Anything in the event log? What's HWMonitor say/CPU-z stress test etc.

Thanks for your reply dude,

I don`t think CD-DVD Driver has anything to do with damaged / rotted disc as I was doing the install through USB for Win7 since I don`t have a CD/DVD drive..

What Event Log are you referring to - where can I find this? I will do some HW Monitor / CPU-z testing this evening and post back but as I said when gaming absolutely no issues what so ever.

I should also mention that when I was running win7 I did not experience any of these issues what so ever which is why I think it must be win10?

Disk sits at 0%-1%-2% when checked in task manager.

What other tests can I run to try and identify what the heck is causing this to eliminate hardware one by one?

Just hit start and type event - you should then see event viewer listed. In there you are looking for Critical and Warning messages.. Probably in System but also check the Application log file. What I'm finding confusing is do you or do you not have a DVD drive? If you do have you physically disconnected it and retried? Assume you've ran the memory checker (click start then type memory)?

M.

I don`t have CD-DVD drive - never had one - never needed one. I tried trillion things it just would not install it.

I run memory test - no issues detected.

Here is a link from event viewer - some weird stuff in there... ?

Where did you get the iso files from? Have you tried different sata cables and what type of storage are you using? Always reinstall with only the drive you want windows on then attach the rest after.

ISO from Microsoft page - original. Have not tried different SATA - will try tomorrow. Got Samsung SSD 512gb.

I begin to think as if "windows 10 is not compatible with some of my hardware..."

Thats unlikely but before going forward make sure the ssd firmware is up to date to rule it out and remember reinstall with just the ssd attached.

Do you have other drives attached?

Was actually running an older firmware version, but just upgraded now and it made no difference. I tried different SATA cables again no difference.

When I google this it seems to be a common problem for many people, however everyone solves it differently so I really don`t know wtf.

Win10 probably does not like me, I am going to try and play with Win7 clean install maybe I ll make it work.

I had similar problems...only thing that solved it for me was installing the ISO from microsft via DVD rather than USB stick. Pain in the **** but it did the job.

Also the link to the event logs doesn't really show anything - you need to expand them and see if there are critical and warning errors.

I managed to install Win 7 after all and guess what.... no issues what so ever the system is lightning fast again..
Really dunno WTF was that in Win10, unless someone will convince me to move I won`t move again anytime soon.

Thank you guys for all the advice, I guess I am going to blame Win10 for it.

This can be closed and moved.

Thx
