Yesterday my machine picked up the KB3194496 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607: September 29, 2016.

Ever since I've had a few issues.

The biggest being File Explorer. If I open it up (defaults to "This PC") the green loading bar never completes and I just get the "Working on it..." message. I can open a second window over the top and it sometimes loads, although some of my mapped drives don't have disk space bars and if you go into others icons are missing etc.

Tried all suggestions online including SFC, index cache rebuild, turn off search. Updated my LAN driver etc etc. Seems it may be an old bug that has returned?

Also some apps no longer work correctly. Filezilla for example was not opening, it would show as running in task manager but would not display. You could not kill the task either. Adobe Lightroom CC after closing still shows the exe running in task manager, every time you open and close it leaves a new one behind.

Tried uninstalling the update and the problem remains.

Anyone else having odd issues since this update?

I don't think anyone has conclusively solved those kind of issues - I got them intermittently on specific systems (even after clean installs they'd crop up after awhile) while others I had Windows 10 installed on for the same length of time didn't exhibit those issues.

Worth checking SMART and system logs, etc. for your HDD/SSDs incase one of them is having problems.

I have to say that I've just tried installing this update on a virtual machine and it's been sat for the last 30 minutes with "Windows Module Installer Worker" at nearly 100% constantly with little to no disk usage.

Very odd, but it seems to in keeping with Microsoft's recent failings. :(

I have no idea why people are still hyping/defending the OS - once you get past the headline features in actual usage and nitty gritty stuff its far worse than even Vista which was generally reviled. For all I don't like it even Windows 8.1 runs more robust and better for usability over the systems I've got it on than 10.

SMART on the SSDs reports no issues.

it's annoying as its been faultless up to now. my work laptop has developed some weird display issue since the last update too.

Its done nothing good for my system, lots of broken drivers, Disks not seen.

I do not use 90% of windows 10 features.

Seriously considering dumping windows. Win 7 was great for me and win not to bad once i put classic shell on.

Need to check if a few core programs work on linux and its time to jump ship. Maybe steam OS.

it seems to have sorted itself out a bit. no idea how but file explorer is loading okay and no apps are being left in the background.

bizarre.

Windows 10 periodically does its own thing - after a new install and/or updates are installed it sometimes runs some system hardware info gathering processes or compiles .net stuff, etc. in the background, sometimes it will randomly kick off pre-processing before an update as well - all of which can cause slowdowns in accessing discs, etc. until those tasks are done.

Drives me up the wall with my Windows 10 tablet as I'd pick it up to check something out quickly and moments after bringing it to life it would start checking for new updates and doing stuff in preparation for that which would chew CPU and Disc access on what is already a low performance system killing any usability :( they've clearly not put much time into thinking the OS through in how it works.

Times we live in constant updates are released (Win 10 more than ever) and frequently cause issue's on different system configurations. It's, impossible the diagnose every possible event but I agree Win 10 especially since anniversary the updates do cause people lots of problems. I picked up a Epson printer from 2012 and installed the drivers. Rebooted and nothing would let me back into Windows. Had to format.

This could be related to my issues I've been having past week. I even replaced my os ssd....

I'll have a read up tonight

Yeah, we get that Rroff :)

The update installed fine for me, as it did for most.

Though MS should have a better fallback plan for failed updates.

People around here have far too much love for Windows 10 which is a broken, even worse than Vista which was largely reviled even though the issues with it were relatively minor, sorry excuse for an OS and I really don't understand it. People used to hate on MS when there really wasn't much reason to hate on them and now there are reasons people often defend them... wtf.

but there's a lot of people here that hasn't had issues or very little issues with windows 10 hence why they say they like/love it.

just because you have had a lot issues with it therefore you don't like it doesn't mean it's the same for everybody else.

for me I've had no issues with windows 10 therefore i like it and is my favourite version so far...

I've just rebooted after the latest set of updates and I'm getting a version mismatch error for the Windows Server Essentials 2012 connector (note: NOT R2).

Plenty of people that are complaining though - on other forums and consumer bodies and the like i.e. Which have been getting 1000s of complaints especially since the AU update.

I'm surprised actually more people here haven't run into issues even than the number that have - but I do tend to push the boundaries with what I do compared to the average user with multiple systems and a wider range of uses.
