Windows 10 Lagging

Hi.
I loaded up my laptop like normal this morning. I logged myself on, and opened Steam. It loaded up, and it was SO laggy! It's never done this before. So, I open up task manager, and it says that 'Antimalware Service Exectuable' is taking up 40% of my cpu! What is this antimalware? Also, how do I fix it?

(ps, I tried to end it, but 'access denied')

Were updates installed recently. I usually see that service spike after updates have been installed or a new application.

My PC did that a day or so ago. After leaving it a while and rebooting it seems to have returned normal. I wonder if Windows Defender has had an update and done full scan.
