Windows 10 licence storage

When you upgrade to Windows 10, your license key gets sent to Microsoft, and is associated with your Microsoft account. Is there any limit to the number of licenses you can associate?

I think it is associated with your hardware ID and not MS account?

I've heard the same, meant to be hardware based.

It is hardware based, as I set up my system without an MS account and it activated with success.

As above, it's hardware based. Micrsoft is just trying to get you to sign in for "not tracking" purposes
