I have found my solution thanks. Remove post if possible.

As I was preparing to extend my W10 for another year. I activated a Microsoft Account in preparation on both my Laptop and PC. However the laptop has been fine since but my Pc now requires login password or PIN.
I appear to have two profiles (which I can use either)
on my login screen one which requires a password and the other a PIN (which I had set up) I can log in OK but would prefer to boot straight to desktop as it was before. I have tried all the known methods ie. Run/plwiz/unclick "users must enter username............" but iPC doesn't accept those changes and still requires password or PIN.
It is though the Microsoft account has taken over even if have logged out of it.
Does this sound familiar and do I have to tolerate it, as I would like to revert to the easier login procedure.

Glad you sorted it.

Would you mind posting the solution in case anyone else comes across this thread and then they can use the same solution?

Can do it with registry settings (that's how I've done it):

I failed to put in my username as an email address but just my name that appears on account. I found solution online thanks to Emily.

  1. First, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options, scroll down to mid page, under "Additional Settings",Make sure "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello Sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended). " is turned OFF.
  2. Type netplwiz in the search on the taskbar and press enter, select your user, if the "user must enter a username and password to use this computer" box is NOT checked, please check it , click Apply. Then uncheck the box and click Apply. This will bring up a pop up window.
  3. On this pop up window, this is where most mistakes happen. Very important, erase the username that's prefilled. Username should be your entire email address for your Microsoft account. Password is your Microsoft account's password. Any typo here can prevent it from working. Then click OK. And back to the netplwiz page, click OK.
  4. Restart the computer now and it should work.
