I'm sorry if this has been covered, I couldn't see it anywhere...

I'm building a new PC and will be putting Windows 10 on it. Is there any advantage to buying Windows 10 from Microsoft for £99.99 or am I better off simply saving a few pennies and buying Windows 7/8 and getting the free upgrade?

Many thanks.

If you have no OS you might as well buy the £99 Win 10!

But if I can buy Windows 7 or 8 for £70 (and then upgrade), what's the advantage to spending an extra £30?

Advantage is, if you ever want to change your hardware a retail copy can just be installed with a key.

If you buy Win 7 you will have to install Win 7 and then upgrade again (1st year only) and Win 10 upgrade you would need to call MS and hope they would activate the upgrade on a new system.

Think Win 10 upgrade is keyless as such and tied to hardware at the time of upgrade.
