after all the back and fourth over an ssd of 30gb or more just to do the win 10 upgrade i decided to use my 500gb storage drive instead as its easier.

so copying all the content to the 750gb drive was simple enough, formatted the 500 with standard format then ccleaner, then shut down normally, pulled the sata cable for the 1tb drive out the socket and fired up with my windows 8.1 disc(started all this last night) and did the straightforward process of installing to the 500gb, did all the 8.1 updates then did the upgrade.

cut a long story short the system detects the 750 along with a usb powered 250gb in DM, however only the 250gb and a 250mb(from the 500 that wasnt allocated) appears in the 'this pc' bit along with the windows drive obviously, but unless im missing some feature with win 10, all DM tells me is its online and healthy .

mean 500gb will be enough for windows 10 for what i want it for, but the whole idea of this was to have windows 10 upgrade on the one drive keeping my 1tb with 8.1 and everything as is and basically using the 750 as extra storage for both windows.

If I'm reading this right, you copied all the data off the 500GB drive, then wiped it, installed 8.1 and then upgraded to 10?

Was it the same 8.1 licence for your non-10 install and your 8.1 install?

My computer was a prebuilt till I changed it, but kept a the mobo/cpu/ram and was bundled with 8.1 and included the OS disc and produce key sticker so I have used the same disc same product code as I obviously own it and did the win 10 upgrade.

The 1tb with 8.1 and all my stuff is still unplugged at the minute, but my theory is that as its now Windows 10 it shouldn't interfere with 8.1 as its 2 seperate drives.

I try to make it as understanding as I can, but you know how it goes when you start typing lol. I have had no real issues getting 2nd drives to work before just never properly used Windows 10 before as I don't like it, so don't know if I've overlooked anything in the settings.

Basically I want to have Windows 10 and 8.1 on the same computer but on different drives as I've already gone about, but in theory I want to be able to access the 750gb from both parties which ever I'm using at the time, however 500gb will be enough for my win 10 use, just be nice to access the 750 drive to get games and whatever off it easier.

I have likely made this a more complex question than it needs to be, but generally I Am wanting to know how to get the 2nd drive seen on win 10 other than in DM as I haven't figured it out. I have no idea how it all will go/behave when I hook my 8.1 drive back up other than I'd hope a selection of either OS on start up.

Thanks for help guys, but ive sorted it now lol.

It needed to have a letter for its path  , knew I overlooked something.
